Term 3 Music Assembly

As Kym, the school's Music Coordinator, explained at today's music assembly as the students explore new instruments and genres, part of their learning includes bringing music that interests them to their tutors. Students have brought to the table music they are drawn to, and teachers facilitate a process of collaboration between ensembles. Today's assembly was just a taste of what is to come at this year's end of year concert, with quite a different concert format to the last three years. Today we were blessed with solos from Erik on violin; Bridie (including an original piece) on keyboard; Xanthe wrote…

A focus of Cycle 1 of the project is to capture data from educators, parents and students attending a Steiner school to address the following:  Why do parents whose children have autism, or suspected…

The Right Brain Develops First: Why Play is the Foundation for Academic Learning

By Vince Gowmon Did you know that the right brain develops first? It does so by the time children are 3-4 years of age. The left brain, on the other hand, doesn’t fully come online until children are approximately seven years old; hence the first seven years being recognized as such a critical period in child development. “Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.” ~ Albert Einstein The left brain’s functionality is one of language, numeracy, literacy, analysis and time. It is the logical, calculating, planning, busy-bee part of us that keeps us anchored in the pragmatic world, and in…

Athletics Carnival with Casuarina

A big thank you to all the Class 8 students who worked very hard organising the individual events. They were amazing and consistent with their support and their leadership. Thank you also to the parent helpers, especially Sammi Cambray, who helped with the tiresome job of scoring all day. All the students participated with great enthusiasm and many were amazed at how far they could long jump, throw the javelin and propel the shotput. The races 50m, 100m and relays were very popular with the students and many wanted to race again. Thank you to all the teachers for their unwavering support and,…

Along the way students learn the intricacies of wood and how to read its hidden secrets. Some is straight grained and easy to work, some…

Two students of Class 8 2018 embark on journeys of a lifetime

Many high students dream of gap years after they leave school, a few lucky ones get to experience a year overseas whilst still at school! That is the case for two fortunate Chrysalis Steiner School students who completed Year 8 at the school last year. Jude Quinn went straight from Chrysalis onto a 12 month Rotary exchange scholarship to Denmark in January of this year (along with Cadence O’Brien from Bellingen High School who travelled to France). Catrine Stachiw, also from last year’s Chrysalis Year 8 class, and this year a student at Bellingen High School, has just found out…
